The Welcoming at The Jones Institute
At The Jones Institute
963 Hayes Street, San Francisco
Join Bay Area Fellow Erika Chong Shuch and For You Productions for The Welcoming at The Jones Institute. Developed in partnership with Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly (LBFE), The Welcoming (2022-2024) is a series of socially-engaged performances created by For You that invite audiences into the hearts and imaginations of San Francisco-based elders. In this latest iteration hosted by The Jones Institute small audiences will gather around a wooden table to hear stories paired with small bites and drinks inspired by a group of San Francisco elders.
Food offerings will be amuse-bouche style along with wine, beer, and a signature beverage. Please note that this will not be a full meal.
For You (Erika Chong Shuch, Rowena Richie, Ryan Tacata) is a performance and social practice group that brings strangers together for shared, intimate encounters. Since 2020, they’ve partnered with LBFE on a series of events and programs that serve isolated elders based in San Francisco. LBFE is a San Francisco-based organization whose mission is to bring elders who live with social isolation out into the community. This iteration of The Welcoming is co-presented by Headlands Center for the Arts and The Jones Institute, an alternative art space to experience new works, ephemera, and more.
The Welcoming is supported by The Rainin Foundation New Works Grant, California Arts Council Impact Grant, and New England Foundation for the Arts’ National Theater Project.
Headlands Center for the Arts’ Bay Area Fellowship: Svane Family Foundation Inaugural Artists, is made possible with the generous support of the Svane Family Foundation.
This event is not wheelchair accessible and will require climbing 10 stairs to enter the venue. For accessibility questions or requests please contact cyoung@headlands.org.
