Present Tense: 2012-13 Grad Fellows
Guest Curator Christian L. Frock
Present Tense showcases new works created by Headlands’ 2012-13 Graduate Fellows during their yearlong studio residencies. Each of the artists contends with embedded histories, found within the landscape of the Headlands itself, but also within their chosen media. Each examines and upends conventional studio practices to produce contemporary narratives within long traditions. New approaches for sculpture, photography, printmaking, painting, and installation are evident in the works featured in the galleries and in a series of site-specifi c projects staged inside and around the main building.
Headlands’ Graduate Fellowships provide yearlong studio residencies to recent, promising MFA graduates in partnership with seven esteemed Bay Area academic institutions. Bringing together representatives from each of these institutions, this exhibition provides a composite view of select Bay Area graduate art programs.
