A recent graduate of Stanford University, Stuart assembles images out of post-consumption waste, including tin and aluminum, creating opportunities for witnessing scenes of Black life. His intimate, yet quasi-anonymous metallic portraits complicate the concept of skin-color-as-race. As he puts it: “In my world, Black skin is durable, weatherproof, conductive, magnetic, flexible, percussive, and indestructible.”
