Artist Statement
As an artist working in social practice, my work is research-driven and experiential, taking the form of installation, performance, and interactive web platforms. I often partner with fields outside of art such as social work, healthcare, and anti-poverty support to raise questions about the social responsibility for care and the allocation of social goods. Although my work operates parallel to social service provision, it does not seek to ‘fix’ social problems and instead aims to shift perspectives about our relationships to ourselves, each other, and the systems around us.
While at Headlands
I am interested in creating hybrid spaces where art and medicine can encounter each other on equal terms. I will be working on biological archives of home health remedies in which ingredients are combined and remixed through a process of interaction that disrupts display and archival protocol. I am also seeking healthcare partners to explore ideas around the ‘incurable’ and the potentials to strengthen relational connection within uncertainty.
