Angela Hennessy
Artist Statement
Tending to themes of loss and liberation, my work draws upon mourning practices that mediate the relationship between the living and the dead. I use everyday domestic labor as ritual gestures—washing, wrapping, knotting, stitching, brushing, and braiding my way through grief. Whether I am face to face with my own mortality or the daily death tolls that saturate social media platforms and news outlets, this is how I begin to make sense of violence in the world. Stitch by stitch. Death by death. Breath by breath.
