While at Headlands

I am two-thirds of the way through an unpremeditated trilogy of co-edited critical anthologies that reflect, in different ways, on the concept of the public. Public Intimacy (YBCA, 2016) and Public Servants (MIT, 2016) will be followed by Public Knowledge. Each of these books explores, in different ways, how artists and institutions of cultural memory (such as museums, archives, and libraries) may contribute to the common good. While at Headlands, I will be working on a series of essays devoted to a topic that has emerged, repeatedly, while editing these anthologies: the intertwining, in history and theory, of public education with the built environment. This writing will also draw on my experience as curator of education and public practice at SFMOMA and as a curator, with mainly pedagogical responsibilities, for the Mercosul Biennial|Porto Alegre, Brazil in 2013, and the Liverpool Biennial, UK in 2016.
