Headlands Center for the Arts

Join us to experience the in-progress and finished work of visual artists Dance Doyle and Oleg Savunov, and filmmaker Javier Roberto Carlos. The day will feature three separate projects by these current Headlands artists throughout our campus. 

Dance Doyle: Studio 13, Bldg. 945

Current Graduate Fellow, Dance Doyle, and artist Carolina Cuevas will be performing URBAN BODIES, a rhythmic performance and installation where both artists are on backstrap looms weaving poetry cloth inspired by how the body can be an extension of urban and natural landscapes and how that can be translated and recorded into the woven cloth.

Javier Roberto Carlos, Headlands Gym

Terrenos Fuera Y Dentro is a 35-minute, three-channel video installation that documents a unique tourist attraction, La Caminata Nocturna, a participatory reenactment of an “illegal” border crossing into the United States.

Oleg Savunov, Rodeo Room, Bldg. 944

Departure is a 4-channel video installation that depicts the act of leaving, departing, and getting away as an expression of the desire for solitude and abandonment of everything familiar. Simultaneously it depicts the process of adapting during the pandemic and Oleg’s recent move to the US. Physically entering and dissolving into the landscape and making it home.
