Artist Statement

Through sculptural installation I examine the ways in which capitalist patriarchal systems degrade, exploit, and harm the Earth as well as the bodies of women. Through physical form, storytelling, and the manipulation of earthly materials I explore themes of motherhood in the Anthropocene, timelines, and grief, and create mythologies of and about synthetic materials.

While at Headlands

While at the Headlands, I hope to expand on my latest body of work, The Solar Mothers: fantastical multi-species figurative sculptures made of synthetic materials, found objects, construction waste, and rocks. As part of this work I will be creating portraits of my grandmothers, both of whom died in 2015 during my own pregnancy. While making these works I will explore disconnection from familial histories and unknown ancestral lands, the poetics of synthetic relationships, and materials. I am excited to embark upon this research and making in the gorgeous Marin Headlands and to connect with other Bay Area and international artists and creators.
