We’re officially unlocking The Key Room! Join us for the opening day of Headlands’ new site-specific installation and visitor resource center by Bay Area artist Carrie Hott (AIR ’14). Explore the in’s and out’s of this new commission as you take a self-guided exploration of Headlands with prompts written by Walter Kitundu (AIR ’08), Constance Hockaday, and Scott Oliver (AIR ’09), listen to true stories told by Holly Blake (staff, 1988–present), Phoebe Brookbank (AIR ’88), Sarah Fran Wisby (AIR ’14), Mark Thompson (AIR ’86), and others, and view a display of over 600 objects from Headlands’ history. Hearty provisions will be sold all day in the Mess Hall Café. Learn more about The Key Room here.

As the newest addition to Headlands Commissions Program, The Key Room builds on Headlands’ history of inviting artists to creatively reinterpret place while stewarding the campus through site-sensitive rehabilitation, to include: David Ireland’s Rodeo Room and Eastwing (1986); Bruce Tomb and John Randolph’s The Latrine (1988); Ann Hamilton’s Mess Hall (1989); Leonard Hunter and Mark Cavagnero’s Building 960 (1999); and Amy Franceschini and Michael Swaine’s Reverse Ark Victory Garden (2008).
