Pawel Kruk

Country: Poland
Year at Headlands: 2007
Discipline: film/video
Program: artist in residence

In his video work, Pawel Kruk has explored the ideas of celebrity and idolatry in the art world and popular culture. In Larger than Life, 2000, Kruk staged an interview with Michael Jordan, casting himself as the basketball star, raising questions of authenticity and our collective obsession with stardom through his performance. Kruk has also examined the public and private faces that he personally puts on as an artist in such works as Messiah College, 2002. Kruk has shown work in several solo exhibitions in Poznan and Warsaw, Poland, and his work has been included in a number of group exhibitions in Poland and the United States, including The American Effect at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. Kruk holds a degree in drawing from The Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan, Poland.
