Aaron Ximm

State: California
Country: United States
Year at Headlands: 2009
Discipline: music
Program: artist in residence

Aaron Ximm is an experimental musician and composer who creates interactive installations and objects that provide listeners with a personalized and site-specific listening experience. Ximm composes primarily by gathering field recordings, asking us to listen to the often-overlooked sounds of daily life. These sounds represent ephemeral moments in time, which Ximm then translates into new experiences by presenting them in new contexts. His works tests the limits of documentation and what it means to capture a particular moment (and whether this act is even possible). Ximm has created commissions for WNYC radio, Cabinet magazine and the Berkeley Art Museum’s MATRIX program, among many others. He has also installed a number of works in California and Portugal and released many CDs over the course of his career.
