Chris Sollars is a visual artist and director of 667 Shotwell, an alternative exhibition space in San Francisco. Sollars has worked in a variety of mediums, including photography, sculpture, drawing, installation and social intervention. Most recently, he completed his first film, C Red Blue J, an experimental documentary chronicling the history and present state of his family, comprised of an artist in San Francisco (himself), a sister working for the Bush administration, a born-again Christian father and a lesbian mother, set against the backdrop of the 2004 presidential election. C Red Blue J has been screened at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Martin Luther King Jr. Public Library in Washington, D.C., among other venues. Sollars plans to continue experimenting with film during his time at Headlands. He has received the Eureka Fellowship Award and the San Francisco Bay Area Artadia Grant in 2007. His work has been shown extensively in the Bay Area and in New York and was included in Creative Time’s Democracy in America exhibition. Sollars holds an MFA in Sculpture from Bard College and a BFA in Sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design.
